Deleted domain name formerly used by then minister Lene Espersen from the Danish Parliament is now a counterfeit RayBan shop
When former Danish minister and leader of Conservative Party Lene Espersen chose to leave politics last November, it was not to become a seller of sunglasses. Nevertheless, the domain formerly owned by her, now hosts a Chinese web shop advertising RayBan sunglasses.
Espersen is not the only one whose former domain is being used for dubious web shops. According to a survey of Danish domains done by IT Consultant Henrik Bjørner of EIT, the former website of high profile attorney Johan Schlüter is now being used to sell Canada Goose jackets, while a domain formerly owned by the Roskilde Technical School now advertises bags from Mulberry.
The Danish E-Commerce Association (FDIH) are aware of the issue and strongly advise against buying anything from web shops that are clearly attempting to exploit the names of well known Danes or Danish companies, without bearing any other relation to that person or company. According to FDIH there is a high probability that the advertised goods are counterfeit or that actual fraud is committed. The same concerns are being expressed by IT Security company CSIS, who has also seen an increase in the re-registration of expired domains lately. A large number of the re-registered domains are then used as suspicious web shops.
